Special Agent Donovan Greer is on the
heels of a serial killer, who has been targeting women who
acted on Broadway in one particular show. There are three
women left who have played the part and Donovan is now given
the task of protecting one of them.
Olivia Weston has been acting since she
was a toddler. Her demanding, difficult father makes her
life miserable but she knows no other way. When Donovan
Greer stubbornly refuses to leave her rehearsal without
speaking to her, Olivia agrees to talk with him. What he has
to say scares Olivia but immediately she instinctively knows
that Donovan will keep her safe. Olivia gives Donovan the
idea that in order for him to protect her, they must pose as
a couple. Donovan agrees and the protection begins.
Donovan looks at Olivia’s protection as
just another stakeout. He doesn’t count on feelings he left
behind ten years ago reoccurring. Not sure if he can handle
another relationship, Donovan steps back each and every time
that Olivia gets too close. Donovan can see the hurt in
Olivia’s eyes when he retreats but he can’t bring himself to
tell her why. When the serial strikes again, Donovan has no
choice but to get her out of town. That’s when the loving
begins.
Olivia doesn’t understand Donovan at
all. Burning hot one minute and cold the next, she decides
that she has nothing to lose. Throwing caution to the wind,
Olivia lets Donovan know how she feels. His reaction
surprises and enchants her. Like a man starved, Donovan lets
Olivia know exactly how much Olivia means to him. Their
idyllic time comes to a screeching halt when a suspect is
apprehended and the secret lovers must return to New York.
There is just one problem. Olivia isn’t out of danger yet, a
caller has reported the affair, and Donovan doesn’t know if
he can save her.
Watch Over Me by Gail R.
Delaney captured my attention and my heart. I am drawn to
anguished heroes and I adore heroines not afraid to love
them. Fighting tears at the anguish Donovan and Olivia feel,
I was rooting for love to prevail and I was not
disappointed. Donovan’s guilt interfered with his ability to
become close to Olivia and that almost made me scream. Lucky
for me Olivia was stronger than she acted because I wanted
to shout at Donovan and then I wanted to kiss him!
Watch Over Me is a must
read in my opinion. Gail R. Delaney has woven a tale of
forgiveness, redemption, and even personal freedom that made
me sigh for a job well done!
