Dominance by B.D. Dark

Steve has the desire to be a Dom and he wants to do it right.  He invests a lot of time and energy into research.  The night finally comes where he attends his first party and meets Kim, a novice sub who has decided to take a step farther into the world of BDSM.  Like Steve, Kim is inexperienced but knows what she wants from the relationship that she is willing to enter.  As Steve and Kim enter into a fledgling Master/sub relationship they learn the rules of the lifestyle together and make up a few of their own rules.  Can this relationship last?  How will they make it work?  As their love for one another grows, there is a darkness to their relationship that they must work hard to overcome.  What will be their next step?

B.D. Dark has taken me farther into the world of BDSM than I’ve ever gone as I read Dominance.  Written in first person this story not only gives a darker view of BDSM, but also takes me into the mind of the Dom. A very intense read!  I learn what he thinks, how he feels all as he is learning his way into his new role.  There are key questions this story raises:  How far is TOO far?  What is too much when a sub enjoys pain?  At what point does Steve, the Dom call a halt to the play? How does he know when his sub has had enough despite her protests to the contrary?  What are her limits if she never sets them?  What are HIS boundaries?  Kim is a sub who loves pain; she seems to be unable to get off without some sort of pain.  While I admit I couldn’t take half the things that Steve did to her, I do find myself intrigued by their actions.  Theirs is a simple relationship with the lines clear, but at the same time blurred because Steve has moments where, in his love for Kim, he allows himself to be led by her desires without realizing he is doing so, and in truth presents a possible danger to them emotionally, possibly even physically for Kim, if he does not take off the mental blinders.  I can discuss this book to no end but I will not overwhelm you with my comments.  I will leave you, the reader, to draw your own conclusion but I will say I thoroughly enjoyed this story!  Though I must warn you there are parts to Dominance that some may find objectionable, taking you way outside your comfort zone as opposed to some of the other BDSM stories that you have read previously.

Submissive by Roxy Harte

Julia’s Master passed away three years ago.  Since then she has avoided going to their old haunts afraid of the glances and the whispers that she knows will come her way due to the fact that hers and her Master’s relationship was legendary.  All that changes one night as she sets out to get laid and ends up going to a familiar club to meet with friends and get set up with a Master.  Hopefully she will get some sex, a possible next thought…maybe she would get a new Master?  Is she ready for that again?  Can Lord Draco be the one to bring her out of her shell, curb her sassy tongue and make her FEEL again?

Reading Submissive I met Julia who at first glance seems flighty but reading further I realize that she’s not as she seems.  She is a woman who is trying to learn how to make her own decisions after the death of her Master, Jasper, who cared for her.  I found myself feeling sorry for her when I read that she didn’t eat because she didn’t have anyone to remind her to eat, while at the same time wondering how she functioned enough to be a school teacher.  When she meets Lord Draco all I could think is ‘wooo hooo she’s going to get laid because he sounds HOT and after three years she needs it!’ but then Julia commits all the faux pas that she is warned NOT to! But again it comes back to the inner demons she has, and other situations that I will not reveal in this review because it’s a good part of the story that should be read without foreknowledge.  Submissive is not as deep as Dominance was, but it had it’s own depth of showing how just because a person is a sub it does not mean that they are a submissive suited to all Doms and each must learn all over again what is required of them, and how far they are WILLING to go all in the name of love.

While I Joyfully Recommend Dom/sub, as I said before this is not for the faint of heart.  There is more to these two stories than someone getting a spanking and then sexed until it feels like their heart is going to stop. This is a raw look into the BDSM world from the point of view of two authors who wanted to push the envelope.  Bravo Ms. Dark/Ms. Harte and I do hope to see future books written by you!
