For testifying to a federal grand jury
about local police corruption, Chicago Homicide Detective Kate
Delaney, receives death threats. She is a defender of
innocents, of victims; her life is black and white, by the
book. When she receives a call from the New Orleans Police
Department about her estranged sister’s death, she is very
upset. They are not treating her sister’s death as any death
should be treated, but it is not her territory. It is not a
question of should, but of how, she can investigate.
PI Nick Broussard is a former SEAL as
well as a former New Orleans Police Detective. He has lived
in New Orleans his whole life; he knows the players and is
familiar with the territory. By the book is not how he has
lived. He has wanted Kate Delaney from the moment he laid
eyes on her. Investigating her sister’s death with Kate
allows him to discover secrets that others do not want found.
No Safe Place is a thriller
set in post-Katrina New Orleans. JoAnn Ross has allowed me a
glimpse into a city that has managed to keep its history,
holding onto the present, while rebuilding towards its
future. And, at the same time she has created a wonderful
tale of suspense and romance. From the first moment I picked
up No Safe Place, I was held enthralled by her
characters and their search for answers. I recommend No
Safe Place, as I could not stop reading it. |
