Sergeant Gian Davinci is all too
familiar with the scars and trauma of sexual abuse. When it
was brought to his attention that the boys of Beaconsfield
Detention Center were suffering the same abuse at the hands
of the prison guards, Gian knew he had to do something about
it. Determine to bring the abusers down, Gian's life is
turned up side down and he's faced with new and old demons
as he does whatever it takes to save the boys of
Beaconsfield. Falling for Cory, the oldest of the abused
and a street hustler complicates Gian job and adds to his
determination to succeed.
Cory felt there was no hope for him and
the other boys. When the new guard arrived, Cory expected
only more of the same but he quickly saw Gian was
different. As Gian proved how different he really was
Cory's initial infatuation with Gian turned into love.
Welcome To Beaconsfield
is a heart wrenching and emotionally disturbing story. My
heart broke for the pain and suffering the boys went through
at the hands of those in authoritative positions. D. J.
Manly did not sugarcoat what was being done to the boys and
the saddest part was the flippant attitudes of the boys,
although I came to look at it as a defense mechanism to
distance themselves from their abusive reality. The
connection between Cory and Gian was hard to focus on given
the theme of the story but as the story progressed I wanted
so badly for them to heal each other. They were a very
frustrating pair, but I couldn't blame them for being
cautious even though I wanted to smack them both upside the
head a few times. Welcome to Beaconsfield has
kicked Mr. Manly's writing skills up a few more notches in
my book. This raw and gritty story will stay with its
reader long after the last page is read. |
