Tory is not your typical 18th century
girl. She craves adventure and excitement. And sex. Eager to
find out what it is all about, she makes some decisions that
have dire consequences.
Colt is a man on a mission, one that
includes forgetting his past as well as finding a way to
make a living in his future. He doesn’t plan on finding a
confused young woman in need of his help.
The Cult by Maddie James
is the second in the Legend of Blackbeard's Chalice series.
I felt confused and lost through much of the beginning of
this, and was unsure how much I had missed in the first
volume. You can read it separately, but I wasn't completely
sure of that at first and the way it began confused me, and
I found it difficult to follow. As a result of the slow
start for me, I never really was able to get into the book
and enjoy it as much as it deserved. I didn't feel for the
characters as much as I should have, finding myself more
apathetic than sympathetic. The villain, however, was
suitably evil and someone that I was anxious to see get his
comeuppance. I have read other stories by Ms. James, and
will likely continue to do so, but this one just wasn't one
of my favorites by her.
