Garnet Boudreaux is back in Louisiana,
a place which she swore never to return. But now that she is
here, something is happening to her, something is pulling
her back to the bayou where she grew up. The call is
irresistible, despite the fact she knows if she responds it
will change her life forever.
Red: A Seduction Tale by
Maddie James is an extremely interesting and completely
original take on the tale of Little Red Riding Hood. I know
I never could have come up with something so unusual and yet
which fits the theme so well. Having said that, there were
some things I found distracting. Things like she is drunk at
10:30, but by 11:30 seems completely sober, the speech
pattern would go from extremely formal to casual during the
same conversation, and the thought of a woman walking in the
bayou with Jimmy Choo high heeled shoes bothered me
intensely.
The tone of the book is more sensual
than erotic, but the love scene, when it happens, includes
something that was unexpected given the level of sexuality
in the rest of the book. I did enjoy Red: A Seduction
Tale, and look forward to reading more by Ms. James. |
