Geeky Wes
Donovan has been secretly lusting after Blake Kirchner, a
teammate on his gay baseball team, ever since he joined the
team. Unfortunately, Blake doesn’t even know he’s alive.
Then he gets the idea to ask Blake to help make him over in
order to get another guy’s affections, and Blake actually
takes the bait. Will Wes finally get what he wants?
I wanted to
like Secret Admirer. I love geeky heroes, and
secret admirer stories. Wes’ outside-looking-in mentality
was easy to sympathize with. Secret Admirer
had two big issues that kept me from loving it, however.
First was Wes, who was way too stereotypically geeky. The
thing that bothered me the most, however, was Blake. He
came across as a shallow jock for much of the story, making
his sudden realization at the end ring very hollow to me.
Secret Admirer has a cute premise and a happy
ending, but don’t expect deep emotions. |
