Emilie “Emmy” Deveraux has made a deal with demons. She has been brought to present day Australia and has found others like herself. Beings like herself are called the Phoenix. At the same time she learns about the Celestials, the opposite of the Phoenix.

Zac is a Celestial. Physically he reminds Emmy of an angel. His actions are saint-like. He is good with children and the homeless.

Unfortunately for Emmy each time they get together he causes feelings in her she hasn’t felt before. Mentally these feelings are good, physically they are very rough on her. Yet they seem to meet up all over Sydney, and Emmy falls further with every look.

Fire Within was a tale of opposites attracting and the quirks of fate. And whereas I did enjoy reading it, I found myself wishing for more background on the main characters especially Zac.
