Toby Garrett, a young newspaper reporter, is on his way via stagecoach to San Francisco, California from Kansas, Missouri.  His boss had encouraged and convinced Toby to make the long and tedious all expenses paid trip as a first-hand look at events “west of the Rockies” for their readers and improving the paper’s circulation.  The stagecoach is met with a horrible accident leaving Toby the only survivor out in the middle of New Mexico Territory.

Luckily, Texas Ranger, Buckshot Atkins, finds Toby on the trail and takes him to the Town of Golden.  The accident and storm have left Toby without money and possessions, and Buckshot agrees to take him to the nearest telegraph in Phoenix.  Buckshot is following any and all available leads on a set of murders and is convinced he’s looking for a serial killer.  Buckshot and Toby’s travels and purpose soon become intertwined as they help each other out.

Two Spirits is a fast-paced action-filled romance mystery mixed with a reincarnation tale of two warriors who must stand together to overcome a demon.  I was hooked from page one, and enjoyed watching the relationship between Toby and Buckshot unfold.  The murder scenes were descriptively gory, but what stayed with me after reading were the events between the two men as they fell in love, the lighthearted banter between the two, and the deep commitment that was formed between two hearts becoming one.
