Aiden lives in a world all of his own
while writing, which allows for his bi-polar disorder to get
out of control. However, he is more aggravated than
grateful with his sister as she tries to care for him –
which lands Aiden right where he doesn’t want to be –
involuntary commitment. But as Aidan is struggling to make
those around him understand that he is not crazy, just
really wrapped up in his writing, Aidan finds a gem within
the hospital staff – Pierce, the orderly. Pierce is patient
and seems to understand Aiden when he doesn’t understand
himself. Is Pierce for real or part of the world Aiden has
created for himself by writing?
Chrysalis 1: Cocooning is a strangely
compelling tale that pulls the reader into the fantastical
paths that a creative mind takes that can be confused with
insanity. Aiden is incredibly compelling as his creativity
leads to an incredible vulnerability, which seems to make
Pierce the perfect match for him. Yet, Pierce seems to
perfect to be real, leaving the reader to wonder just how
“real” Pierce is… It will be interesting to see what twists
and turns Mike Shade takes in the next installment of the
series. Chrysalis 1: Cocooning is flight of
fancy that will leave you wondering where Aiden and Pierce
are headed next. |
