Carli is a private investigator. After a
particularly hard day in which she was attacked by a client
for doing what the client asked, she wants nothing more than
to take a hot shower and crawl into bed. Carli arrives home
and realizes that an intruder is in her house, asleep in her
bed. Perusing his naked body, Carli is stunned to recognize
that it is Aidan, the man she loved and left eight years ago.
Aidan has come back to his hometown house
because of his job. Needing intelligence from Carli on some
dubious activity by her twin brother, Aidan wants to get in,
get the job done, and get out. He has spent the last eight
years mourning the loss of Carli in his life and there is no
way he is going to deliberately set himself back up to be hurt
again.
Aidan’s good intentions go awry with one
kiss. Unsure of what is going to happen next, Aidan and Carli
both know that if they can’t be together at this very moment,
someone is going to combust. Aidan wants to know why Carli
left him and Carli is unsure she can tell him. What happens
when Aidan finds out? Will he high tail it out of town or will
he stick around long enough to find out if Carli and he can
have a relationship?
Having never read Eliza Gayle before, I
had no preset ideas as to what her writing style would be. I
liked the blurb for Submissive Secrets and since BDSM is my
favorite genre to read. I happily sat down to begin. My first
impression of Submissive Secrets was good; I became interested
in the story. Carli’s reasons for breaking up with Aidan long
ago made my roll my eyes a bit but I had to give her the
benefit of the doubt for being young. Aidan was plain as all
get out sexy. From tip to toe I thought him quite the stud.
If there was one thing that I didn’t like, it was the fact
that while Aidan needed intelligence on Carli’s brother
because of his employer, that’s where it stopped. He didn’t
search her house, he didn’t tie her up, and he didn’t torture
her. What he did do was steamy and sensual and very erotic,
but the storyline of the brother didn’t follow through.
That aside, I enjoyed Submissive Secrets
very much. I look forward to researching and reading Eliza
Gayle again. |
