| Rhythm Malcolm Cates is a world-renowned chef. Rachel
Donavan is an up and coming architect. The two meet at
Rhythm’s club during his brother’s wedding. Sparks fly
between the two, but not in a good way. Insults and pranks
flow between the two until one magical drunken night. Can
the two get past their hatred for each other to become more
than enemies? Can they even be friends? During the first
part of Rhythm I had a hard time getting into
the book. The hatred shown between Rhythm and Rachel was
almost too much for me. These two seemed to hate each other
for no reason. Then the two of them started acting like
children. Rhythm serves Rachel uncooked food and then she
goes and destroys his kitchen. That is right after meeting
each other. It sort of reminds me of the whole hitting
thing in children when they like each other. Once the book
got to the part where the two get drunk, it started to look
up. The scene Valarie Prince wrote in the bar was very
funny. They were still angry at each other, but I got the
feeling they were starting to like each other a little.
I almost liked the story between Rhythm’s friends a
little better than the main characters. I really liked Pam
and Joshua’s interaction and Denise & Pam were wonderful as
well. It was nice to see such strong friendships.
I am glad that I got through the first part of
Rhythm because Ms. Prince redeems herself with the
middle and end of the book. Through all the anger I could
see that Rhythm was a good man through his work with
children and it was wonderful when Rhythm and Rachel really
started to work together. I would definitely try another
book by Valarie Prince in the future. |
