Mike joins the Marines right out of
high school. During boot camp, he’s paired with a “buddy,”
Scott Calder. Mike quickly discovers a lot of surprising
things about himself, including unexpected feelings about
Scott. He’s incredibly happy when Scott loves him in
return—until Scott is killed in Afghanistan. Alone and
hurting, he returns to the Corps. Will Mike ever find
happiness again?
For the Love of the Corps is an emotional tale
of love, loss, and finding the courage to love again.
Mike’s honest, tell-it-like-it-is narration made it easy to
connect with him. While there sometimes seemed to be an
emphasis on the sex, it wasn’t overpowering. I liked the
way Bobby Michaels included emotion (told in an amusing,
very “guy” style) along with the hot sex scenes. The
characters were likeable, and the storyline believable. The
only thing I didn’t like about this book was the fact that
because it was written in the first person, I didn’t really
get to know the other characters. I would have liked to see
how Scott and Paul, Mike’s new love, felt about things.
Still, if you like Marines who like each other, this is the
book for you! |
