Author Spotlight

I was given the opportunity to chat with a wonderful author, who took time out of her schedule to chat with me for a bit.  So, without further delay letís hear from

Liz Andrews

Did you always want to be a writer and how did you get started?
I loved to write when I was in school and I used to daydream about writing a romance novel, but it wasnít until I met Lena Matthews and she encouraged me to write that I was finally able to make my dream a reality.

What was the best piece of advice you received when you were starting out?  Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
I think the best piece of advice I got and the same I would give to any aspiring writer is to find yourself a good critique partner.  This is someone who wonít always tell you everything you write is wonderful, but someone who is strong enough to point out the flaws in your writing so you can improve.

You write with another author, Lena Matthews, do you always see your stories going in the same direction?  How does the writing process work for you?
When Lena and I work together we try to plan our stories, but without fail they change before the final product.  Sometimes this occurs due to our different visions within the story and in those cases we talk it out so we are able to produce the best possible story.

Tell us a little about Liz and what makes youÖyou.
Iím an only child, read spoiled.  I just turned forty, but I feel about ten years younger.  Single and childless I work all day at a full time job and write in the evenings.  I have a very large circle of friends and absolutely love to travel.  Reading is one of my favorite past times, although since I started writing I have to limit my reading to vacations and between deadlines.

You write in several genres, do you have a favorite?  Is there a genre you would like to try?
I think the easiest genre for me to write is Erotic Contemporary.  Itís more real life and everyday.  I would love to try writing Sci Fi, but after I wrote Paranormal I discovered world building is NOT as easy as you would think.  I really enjoy our Paranormal stories, but we have had to develop a reference guide to make sure we always get our facts straight.

I read you enjoy hosting dinner parties. Does that mean you enjoy cooking?  Any great recipes to share?
I love to cook, but rarely do it except when I have people over because itís so hard to cook for just one person.  My specialty is cheesecake.  I love it.

Writing romances, do you believe in happily ever after and have you found yours?
I do believe in happily ever after, but no, I havenít found it yet.  Thatís not to say Iím not still looking.  Being single allows me to meet a lot of different men.  So far none of them has been the one, but the journey has definitely been interesting.

If you could bring one of your characters to life, who would it be and why?
I think it would be Patrick in Wounded Hearts.  I love the tortured hero and he is just so yummy.

How would your writing partner describe you?  And is she right on target?
As one of the most giving people she knows, but Iím also an egghead.  She laughs at my ďbig wordsĒ as she calls them.  I think she knows me better than anyone else on the planet.

Tell us some of your favorites: foods, books, authors, movies, music, seasons, and other favorites.
Favorite food is cheesecake, you never can have too much.  Favorite book is To Kill a Mockingbird.  Favorite authors are Lena Matthews, Lora Leigh, Christine Feehan, Karen Marie Moning, Sherilyn Kenyon, Nalini Singh, Lynn Veil, JR Ward, old Joanna Lindsey and Julie Garwood, Kay Hooper, Linda Howard Ö God I could just go on and on.  Favorite movie is the Sound of Music, I just love musicals.  I like all kinds of music, so I canít pick just one.  Favorite season is Autumn.  I love the changing colors and the cooler air.

What do your family and friends think of your writing?  Do they read your work?
My family and friends all know about my writing and think itís great.  My mom has actually read all my books and eagerly awaits each new one.  Some of my friends donít read my stories, but they are still supportive.

How do you promote your work?
I buy ads when a new story is coming out, give interviews (hint, hint) and occasionally do some chats.  I have a monthly newsletter and contest that I do as well.

What is your perfect writing environment?  Do you and Lena write together?
A perfect writing environment when Iím writing with Lena includes someone watching her kids, the Internet working and ideas flowing.  Chocolate on hand is also good.  Our writing process is unique in that we both write both points of view and we compose by talking on the phone and IM for literally hours at a time, sending the document back and forth between the two of us.

Do you enjoy hearing from your readers and what is the best way to contact you?
I love to hear from readers and they can email me at

Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
I have a Halloween release at Elloraís Cave titled Hankie Pankie and a Veteranís day release at Loose Id titled Through the Fire.
